Thought for the month – August 2014

The war is won!

This month we have been remembering the 100th anniversary of the start of the First World War and thinking about the impact it has had on our country and nation.

As Christians we know that the war against sin and death has already been won by our Saviour Jesus Christ and we can be confident that he has won the victory for us. He has prepared a place for us and we know we will be going to heaven. We read in 1 Corinthians 15:57 “But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.”

If you are not a Christian yet, you too can share in this victory by putting your trust in the Lord Jesus Christ. John 3:16 says “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.”

As a soldier fighting in a war, it is important to be prepared and to put on your uniform and equipment when engaged in battle. As David said in last month’s thought for the month; preparation is key. In order to survive in today’s world we should use the armour that the Lord has given us. We read in Ephesians 6:13 “Therefore put on the full armour of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand.”

During wartime it was important to restrict light and not be seen by the enemy. For Christians the reverse is true, it is important that our light is visible to other people around us so that they can see we are different. God says in Matthew 5:16 “In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.”

As you return home from camp this month, I trust you will be able to take confidence in the fact that God has won the victory for you and has given you his Spirit to help you in your daily walk with him. 2 Timothy 4:7 says “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.”
