What We Believe

We do not publish a “Statement of Faith“. A short man-made statement cannot adequately express the whole matter of faith and teaching. However, we recognise that many of you will want certain assurances of our faith and doctrine. We have therefore attempted to outline some of the main areas which we feel may be of particular concern.

Generally speaking, our teaching follows the historical evangelical interpretation of the Scriptures which has to a large extent been accepted by the Christian Church since its inception.

The Bible

We believe that the sixty-six books of the Bible, the Holy Scriptures, are the infallible Word of God, that they are the Divine and complete revelation of God for us, that they are verbally inspired of God, and are the supreme full and final authority in belief and behaviour.

God

We believe in one Sovereign Almighty God, eternally existing in three persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit. We believe He is omnipotent (all powerful), omniscient (all knowing), omnipresent (everywhere at once), and unchangeable. We believe He is holy, He is just, and He is love.

Jesus Christ

We believe in the absolute deity and humanity of the Lord Jesus Christ: that He is truly God and truly man. We believe that He, the eternal Son of God, was born of a virgin, having been conceived in her womb by the Holy Spirit. We believe in His sinless life, His miracles, His vicarious (substitutionary) and atoning death, His bodily resurrection from the dead, His ascension in that body to the right hand of God in heaven, and that He is the one and only Saviour of men. We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ died for the sin of man, and that His death has satisfied the righteous demands of a holy and righteous sin-hating God. We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ will return, first to the air to take every true believer to heaven, and then to earth to establish His kingdom on earth, and reign as King of kings, and Lord of lords.

The Holy Spirit

We believe in the deity and personality of the Holy Spirit, by whose regenerative work sinful man can be born again, and by whose indwelling regenerate man is enabled to live a godly life.

Man

We believe in the creation of Man in the image of God, but man’s subsequent fall through the sin of Adam resulted in the guilt and condemnation of the whole of the human race, and so man, apart from Christ, is spiritually dead and lost, and is incapable of any personal merit for salvation. We believe in the consequent necessity for salvation through personal faith in Christ.

Resurrection

We believe in the bodily Resurrection of the just and the unjust; the everlasting blessedness of the saved, and the everlasting punishment of the lost.

Forgiveness of Sins

We believe that when individuals truly repent of their sin, and put their trust in the Lord Jesus Christ as their Lord and Saviour, they immediately enjoy the Forgiveness of Sins, being put right with God, and they possess eternal life, being born again of the Holy Spirit. We believe that men can be right with God only on the basis of faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, whose shed blood is the only basis for forgiveness, and cleanses from all sin. We believe that all such true believers in the Lord Jesus Christ anywhere and everywhere have eternal life as a present and permanent possession, and therefore can have the absolute assurance of salvation for time and eternity.
